Directed by Gore Verbinski. Written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio.

Captain Jack Sparrow

  • You can mistrust me less than you can mistrust him. Trust me.

  • Have you not met Will Turner? He's noble, heroic, terrific soprano, worth at least four, maybe three and a half. And did I happen to mention he's in love? With a girl. Due to be married. Betrothed. Dividing him from her and her from him would only be half as cruel as actually allowing them to be joined in holy matrimony, eh?

Lord Cutler Beckett

  • Jack Sparrow is a dying breed. The world is shrinking; the blank edges of the map filled in. Jack must find a place in the new world or perish. Not unlike you, Mr. Turner. You and your fiance face the hangman's noose. Bring me that compass or there's no deal.

Dialogue

Gibbs: Captain, I think the crew, meaning me as well, were expecting something more... shiny, what with the Isla de Muerta going all pear-shaped, reclaimed by the sea and the treasure with it.
Leech: And the Royal Navy chasing us all around the Atlantic.
Marty: And the Hurricane.
Gibbs: All in all, it's been some time since we did a speck of honest piratin.'
Jack Sparrow: Shiny?
Gibbs: Aye, shiny.
Jack Sparrow: Is that how you're all feeling, then? That maybe old Jack is not serving your best interests as captain?
Cotton's Parrot: Walk the plank!
Jack Sparrow: [pulls out gun and points it at the parrot] WHAT DID THE BIRD SAY?

Jack Sparrow: Gentlemen, what do keys do?
Leech: Keys... unlock things?
Gibbs: [catching on.] And whatever this key unlocks, inside there's something valuable... So, we're setting out to find whatever this key unlocks?
Jack Sparrow: No. If we don't have the key, we can't open whatever it is we don't have that it unlocks. So what purpose would be served in finding whatever need be unlocked... which we don't have... without first having found the key what unlocks it?
Gibbs: So, we're going after this key!
Jack: You're not making any sense at all, mate.

Jack Sparrow: Bootstrap? Bill Turner?
Bootstrap Bill: You look good, Jack.
Jack Sparrow: Is this a dream?
Bootstrap Bill: [confused] No.
Jack Sparrow: I thought not. If it was, there'd be rum.

Jack Sparrow: No worries, mates. Tia Dalma and I go way back; thick as thieves. Nigh inseparable we are... were... have been... before...
Gibbs: I'll watch yer back.
Jack Sparrow: It's me front I'm worried about.

Tia Dalma: You know of Davy Jones, yes? A man of the sea. A great sailor. Until he ran afoul of that which vexes all men.
Will: What vexes all men?
Tia Dalma: What, indeed?
Gibbs: The sea?
Pintel: Sums?
Ragetti: The dichotomy of good and evil?
[Everyone stares at Ragetti.]
Jack Sparrow: A woman.
Tia Dalma: See, it was a woman. He fell in love...
Gibbs: No, no, no. I heard it was the sea he fell in love with.
Tia Dalma: Same story, different versions. And all are true. You see, it was a woman. As harsh, changing and untamable like the sea. Him never stopped loving her...

Jack Sparrow: You look bloody awful. What are you doing here?
Norrington: You hired me, remember? I can't help it if your standards are lax.
Jack Sparrow: You smell funny.

Jack Sparrow: You know, um... Lizzy... I am... captain of a ship. And being captain of a ship, I can conduct a mar-i-age, right here. Right on this deck. Right... now.
Elizabeth: [gets the hint and gives a look of disgust] No, thank you.
Jack Sparrow: Why not? We are very much alike, you and I. I and you. Us.
Elizabeth: Except for a sense of honor, and decency, and a moral center. And personal hygiene.
Jack Sparrow: [sniffs his armpit] Trifles.

Elizabeth: You and I are alike. And there will come a moment when you will show it — to do the right thing.
Jack Sparrow: I love those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by.
Elizabeth: You'll have the chance to do something, something courageous. And when you do, you'll discover something: that you're a good man.
Jack Sparrow: All evidence to the contrary.
Elizabeth: Oh, I have faith in you. Want to know why?
Jack Sparrow: Do tell, dearie!
Elizabeth: Curiosity. You're going to want it... a chance to be admired and gain the rewards that follow. You're going to want to know what it tastes like.
Jack Sparrow: But I do want to know what it tastes like.
Elizabeth: Although, seeing that you are a good man, I know you would never lead me to compromise my honor.

Pintel: I don't think it's "Kraken," anyways. Always heard it said "kray-kin".
Ragetti: What? With a long A? Na-na-na-na-no-no no, "kroh-ken"'s how it's pronounced in the original Scandinavian, and "Kraken"'s closer to that.
Pintel: Well we ain't original Scandinavians, are we? "Kray-kin."
Ragetti: It's a mythological creature. I can calls it what I wants!

Norrington: You actually were telling the truth.
Jack Sparrow: I do that quite a lot. Yet people are always surprised.
Will Turner: [Suddenly appearing] With good reason!
